2023 TREMONT WRITERS CONFERENCE

The 2023 Tremont Writers Conference brought writers of all genres together for a five-day intensive retreat like no other.

In October 2023, 20 writers of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry met with and learned from renowned authors and professional park educators within the lush, secluded campus of Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, nestled within America’s most-visited national park.

The small group of writers—chosen from over 200 applicants—spent their days brainstorming and fine-tuning creative endeavors with award-winning workshop leaders while also learning and writing in small groups throughout the day.

WHAT OUR PARTICIPANTS had to SAY:

“The writing workshops cultivated an atmosphere that balanced the freedom to share criticism with the safety to receive it. Moreover, the open conversations and craft workshops provided me with ways to rethink my writing, the goals I have for it, and the ways to achieve those goals.”

“Tremont leaders and staff were amazing. You all made us feel like you were happy we were there—that we were welcomed guests but also part of a family. I enjoyed the family-style meals, the quotes and silent time, and that staff and leaders sat with us at meals. It was very organized and efficient.”

“The week was AMAZING from start to finish—a truly profound, unforgettable, and enriching experience. I definitely experienced a breakthrough in writing voice and dialogue through the workshops and from reading and discussing the other participants’ work and styles.”
